Parents On-Line Forum

Many Lexington parents are trying to deal with unhealthy stress in their children and families -- or have ideas about what can be done to address this issue in the schools or in the community. The purpose of this on-line forum is to enable parents to easily share information and ideas.

In offering ideas, questions and responses, parents should refrain from complaining about particular situations; rather the emphasis should be on providing useful information and advice to other parents as well as constructive ideas and suggestions on how to address specific issues.

To maintain some degree of focus and privacy, the membership of this forum has been limited, at least initially, to parents with children in the Lexington Public Schools whose email addresses are on the various PTA email distribution lists.

We hope you will find it useful and welcome any ideas on how to best take advantage of this technology.

Joining the Forum

The on-line forum has been set up as a Google group. Forum pages are identified with the title "Lexington Parent Online Forum on Student Stress".  Since this is a closed group, you must apply for membership (requires a Google account) on the Forum "Join" page. The sign-up process is straightforward and should take nomore than 2-3 minutes.

Follow these instructions:

  1. Click here to start
    • If you are already signed in to a Google account, this will take you to the Forum "Join" page. Skip to step 3.
    • If you are not signed in or do not have a Google account, click on the "Sign in and apply for membership link. This will take you to the Google Groups page
  2. On the Google Groups page
    • If you already have a Google account, sign on with that account. This will take you to the Forum "Join" page.
    • If you do not have a Google Account yet, click on the blue "Create an Account " button and follow the directions to create a Google account. Once you have created the account, you must verify the email address given by clicking on the link in the email message Google sent. Once this is done, click on the link above to go to the Forum "Join" page.
  3. On the Forum "Join" page, do the following:
    1. Select your method for interacting with the Forum. "No email" is recommended for new users. This means that you will read the Forum via the web.
    2. Enter the nickname that will identify your posts
    3. Enter your full name and children's school in the text box .  This information is required to identify legitimate users and help block spammers.
    4. Click on "Apply to this group"
  4. After clicking "Apply", you will see the following notification: "Your request to join is pending and has not yet been approved by the group manager". You will normally receive a response to your request within 12 hours.
  5. When your request has been approved, you will receive an email at the address associated with your Google account with this subject line: "Google Groups: Your subscription request is approved"
  6. You are now ready to participate in Forum discussions. Go to the Forum web page at http://groups.google.com/group/lhs-stress/
